International Day of Peace September 21st

September 21st 1982 was the First International Day of Peace.

This year on September 21st in hundreds of countries, people are planning to create a more peaceful world.

Peace One Day is one organization trying to create a Global Truce on Peace Day; A world wide intentional event to bring people together through art, sport, music, dance and meditation. People will send a call for an end to violence, in every country, in every city and home.

This is a lofty goal, but not impossible. Through small and large acts we can all send out Peace, Love and intention for a more tolerant world.

Find a way this Friday to celebrate Peace.

Take one minute to be grateful for every blessing you have in this life, and send  Peaceful thoughts out into the world.

As we move closer to a global village in every way, we need to remember that a village is made up of people  just like you. Every thought and action towards creating a more peaceful and loving world will be amplified.

Be a part of the world’s biggest Peace Movement. It doesn’t matter how big or small your action is, just do it!

In the words of John Lennon; All we are saying is Give Peace A Chance.

Defend Our Coast – October 22 2012

Defend our Coast was a political action that united  thousands of people.  On October 22 2012  people from across Canada gathered at the Victoria Parliament buildings to send a message.

5000 people risked arrest to say NO to the tar sands in Alberta, the pipeline to our coast, and super tankers off our shores.

Here are some pictures I took there that day;

Humankind has not woven the web of life.

We are but one thread within it.

Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.

All things are bound together.

All things connect.

If someone thinks that love and peace is a cliche that must have been left behind in the Sixties, that’s his problem.

Love and peace are eternal.

Happy Birthday GREENPEACE

Greenpeace was started 40 years ago this week in a living room in Vancouver, BC.

On their website it proudly boasts 40 years of  Inspiring Action, Making Change, Bearing Witness, Solutions, Victories! And this is what I think of when I hear the name as well.

Activists had a simple message in 1971 and it remains vital today; TAKE ACTION! The founders of Greenpeace were regular Canadians. What began as protests against nuclear weapons testing / transporting/ now covers climate change, toxic pollutants, protection of forests, oceans, agriculture, and even PEACE and disarmament.

I am proud to live in the same province where such ideals could evolve into an international movement called Greenpeace.

The Cove-

More then 20 000 dolphins and porpoises are slaughtered each year off the coast of Japan.
Take Part is a website that highlights issues of animal rights, environmental protection, poverty and social justice issues.

Visit this site and learn more about the movie The Cove which documents this heart breaking travesty that is occurring everyday under the noses of the people of Japan and the world.

Animals do not belong in captivity, No Whales In Captivity is another organisation that aims to educate people and liberate mammals that are used as circus performers the world over.

Surely in the 21st  century we can decide that animals are worthy of respect and deserve to live their lives in freedom.
